Jessica Bowman posted an intriguing article on SearchEngineLand.com pertaining to SEO via repeating target keyword phrases (she calls them brand phrases). As Jessica advises, “If your company has everything sitting on a single domain, unfortunately, it's unlikely that you will dominate page one because search engines do not like to display more than one or two pages from a given domain.” Her approach to “dominating page one” of major search engines focuses heavily upon website domain and sub-domain text.
A great way for smaller e-Businesses to work their way up to page one of search engine results is to generate distinct sites for varying aspects of their company, and incorporate target keyword phrases into each domain and sub-domain of their pages.
In order for this to be significantly effective, typical SEO strategies also need to be considered. Naturally, on-page optimizations are essential. Jessica suggests “[getting] your company name on the homepage of each website” near the copyright information. Also, implementing your e-Business target keyword phrases in on-page content is beneficial, but be sure to do so appropriately so as not to spam.
Link building is another SEO-must; “…obtain links that pass on relevancy for the brand terms you are targeting. To do this,” Jessica writes, “find sites that talk about the parent company, and see if they will also link to the websites you are targeting.”
Another tip is to research directories that specialize in your niche (small business, etc) and establish a link relationship. For an illustration of the effect repeating target keyword phrases has on page rank, check out this search for Hewlett Packard in a Yahoo Business directory. Take note of how many sub-domains include “hp.”
Good luck!
